Last Friday my friend Phiona of Rare Notions came over to give me a one on one workshop in paper folding. I met Phiona 10 years ago on my art foundation course and we have stayed in touch over the years. She is a paper artist and creates all kinds of wonderful things out of the simple medium. I love all types of paper art and have played around with origami in the past but never took it on seriously. When I mentioned to her I'd always wanted to learn properly she kindly offered me a helping hand! :D
We had a lovely afternoon making 2 kusudamas and some paper tulips. Hopefully in our next session we'll make different types of paper flowers, she brought over some lovely examples she has made (see image below). We also had a good catch up about what we've been up to over the years and discussing exciting new projects we would like to collaborate on in the future.
Scroll below to see some pics of our day and the results from the workshop. :) Can't wait to get folding some more!
If you're interested in attending some paper themed workshops by Phiona then check out her website. She has a bookmaking and paper beads workshop coming up in May in Leicestershire.
And here are the 3 finished pieces!
